Russian invasion toward Ukraine as a challenge to the Catholic Church

Abstract

The purpose of this text is to answer the question of whether the war in Ukraine represents a caesura in the history of the Catholic Church. The article consists of two main parts. In the first, the author reconstructs Pope Francis’ narrative on the Russian war in Ukraine based on a selection of his public statements. The second, deals with the interpretation of the Church’s attitude towards the war in Ukraine in structural terms. In this part, the author critically refers to the theses of John L. Allen Jr.
