The Church and the problem of borders. Part 2. The Position of Catholic bishops in the war crisis of 2022–2024

Abstract

The article presents an analysis of the position of Polish Catholic bishops on three issues where Pope Francis’ teaching differs fundamentally from the sentiments of the Polish public: the right to armed self-defense, armament, and the attitude toward Russia. During the war in Ukraine, the bishops distanced themselves from the Pope’s ide­alistic pacifism and adopted a position of traditional Catholic realistic pacifism.
