Mystical teachings of Miguel de Molinos. Selected metaphors and affects
Keywords:
Miguel de Molinos, mysticism, metaphors, affects, spiritualityAbstract
This article aims to analyze selected themes from the work of Miguel de Molinos’ The Spiritual Guide, a 17th-century Spanish mystic. An attempt has been made to organize the structure of the tratcat, creating a map of metaphors and affects. Among these metaphors, several types were distinguished: images of wandering, places, figures and situations. The affects were divided into “positive” and “negative” in terms of those that, according to Molinos, promote spiritual development and those that hinder it. The text also identifies the key controversies of Molinos’ mystical work and its relationship to the Spanish mystical tradition.
