Abstract

The Czech Republic seems to be the unique piece of land among the sea of religious states of Central and Eastern Europe. Their famous lack of religion in the public life and division the public and private parts of life made them an interesting case study for all who tries to understand European identity.

The purpose of this article is to identify relationships between Czechs’ religion attitudes and their point of view for the state’s role and relations with citizens. The first part is focused on the past of Czech and historical background which created their national identity. The second part shows some examples of modern policy and relations between religion and the state
law regulation.

This article investigates how and what Czechs think about religion as an element of their identity. Moreover, the historical background described in the text allows to understand why they insist on separating the public and private religious aspects of their life. This is illustrated through some statistic researches and articles.
